AOL News

My time on AOL News was some of the most rewarding of my career. I was part of a large multidisciplinary design group that was responsible for all of AOL’s suite of digital products. As Art Director, I managed a team of 5 talented individuals, and supported all design related projects for the AOL News channel. We nimbly navigated through numerous full scale redesigns as well as daily design challenges for our Daily Pulse product, launching at 4pm each and every weekday.

News Main – 2004

I played a pivotal role in the design and technological overhaul of AOL News, at the time, the most visited news site on the web. The design system I created would serve as a template to which all the properties service-wide would adhere to.

Elections – 2004

The significance of the Elections package in 2004 was the introduction of HTML and CSS to the AOL service. The design proved that AOL content could thrive with more real estate, which drove our traffic to an all time high.

The Daily Pulse

One product I am still proud to have helped launch, was the notion of “Citizen Journalism”. Each morning we would poll our audience on current topics they would like to see covered, and by 4pm we would launch a full blown feature package, offering content gathered from around the web and from our readers.

Features

Another aspect to my role was the continuous creation of feature packages that our readers could digest, usually for weekend consumption.
